for Mater Dei Council No. 8059 Regular Meeting
Wednesday, January 14, 2008
Meeting was called to order by the Grand Knight at 7:02 p.m.
Role Call of Officers: Bill, Michael M., Fr. John, Larry, Kyle, Norm (excused), Mike H. (absent), Robert (absent), Darwin (excused), Merlin, and Clem (excused)
Reading of minutes from last month's meeting (December)
Report of Admission Committee (Reading of Applications): Merlin reported one transfer application.
Grand Knight’s Report:
- Volunteers are needed to assist with set up for Casino Night between 12 and 2 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to assist that evening as well. Donations of pop and water for the night are also being accepted. If you can assist please contact Regina McCarthy.
- Lenten dinners are being planned for every Friday of Lent. Please plan on assisting if at possible. reasonable prices - Fr. Jon noted that major goal was to build community was impressed by that which occurred in Nortonville - possible entertainment on stage - getting youth involved - Start February 27th. Server appreciation night.
Chaplain's Report (Fr. Jon):
- The council was applauded for the work they do for the council.
- Discussion concerning Lenten dinners and major goal of building community was noted.
Treasurer's Report (Larry): Larry updated council on income and expenses.
Financial Secretary's Report (Merlin):
- Donald Broxterman and Don Frick were notified and sent awards for Honorary Life Membership.
- Return rate of form noting volunteers was low. Suggestions for increasing response rate included having announcement at mass with Knights filling out form after mass as well using brightly colored forms.
Youth Director's Report (Kyle):
- Free Throw Contest is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th, 6:30 p.m. Please arrive between 6 and 6:15 p.m. to assist with setup.
- Vocation Awareness and Substance Abuse poster contest is in the planning stages.
Reading of Communications: We received a thank you letter from TARC for our donation from the tootsie roll drive.
No Reports were provided for the following: Chancellor, Program Director, Church Director, Family Director, Council Director, Community Director, Trustees Report, Services Program, Membership Program, and Standing Committees
Unfinished/Old Business:
- It was moved and seconded to offer Bob Dorst $75.00 to go towards travel expenses for the Pro Life Rally (Hayden Highschool students) pending follow-up discussion concerning the rationale for estimated expenses (Bill will follow-up).
- Server recognition - tabled for a later meeting
- Juice, Doughnuts, and Coffee Social will be held on January 25th at the Holy Name site.
- Pancake breakfast will be held on February 15th at the Holy Name site.
New Business: Bill will contact Alan Conroy concerning baby crib for Pro Life and items to go along with crib.
4th Degree Report:
- If anyone attended the Christmas Dinner and took picture with Color Guard, photos are available (Kyle has contact info).
- Color Guard will be participating in Pro Life Rally weather permitting (9:45 in Regalia, 10:15 prayer upstairs, rally is at 11, mass at noon).
Field Agent's Report: Letter from Doug Martinek - he will no longer be our insurance agent due to realignment of councils. He thanked us for our support of 7 years.John Mahon will be assigning us new agent.
District Deputy's Report:
- Regional free throw will be held on February 5th (Jeff West)
- Our Lady of Guadelupe is scheduling Degree's initiation at the end of August
- We were commended for our work and encouraged to keep up the good work.
- Recommended a membership drive in the near future.
Announcements: There will be a 13-week Formation Leadership program for men taking place at Most Pure Heart. The program begins at 6 a.m. on Saturdays. All are encouraged to attend.
For Good of the Order:
- Keep Merlin in your prayers for pending surgery.
- Keep Nick in your prayers for health concerns.
- Keep Dan Spindler and family in your prayers for their loss.
- Keep Bill's Mother-in-law in your prayers for upcoming surgery.
- Keep adopted seminarian and other seminarians in your prayers.
