for Mater Dei Council No. 8059 Regular Meeting
Wednesday, February 11, 2008
Meeting was called to order by the Grand Knight at 7:08 p.m.
Role Call of Officers: Bill, Michael M., Fr. John (Excused), Larry, Kyle, Norm (Absent), Mike H. (Absent), Robert (Absent), Darwin, Merlin, and Clem (Absent)
Reading of minutes from last month's meeting (January): Approved with one correction, Regional Free Throw Contest (Feb. 15th)
Report of Admission Committee (Reading of Applications): Merlin reported one transfer application, John “Rusty” Dennis, Jr., and one new application, Richard Storrer. Both applications were unanimously approved.
Grand Knight’s Report:
- Council will host Sweetheart Breakfast this Sunday, February 15, from 8:30-11:00 at the MD School Cafeteria (Holy Name site). Menu will be biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice. Free will donations accepted. Set-up will be at 7:30, volunteers needed.
- Lenten Dinners will begin Friday, February 27, and will be each Friday during Lent, 5:00-7:00 at Rossiter Hall. Cost will be $5/adults, $3/kids, and tickets can be purchased 6 for $25/adults or 6 for $15/kids. Stations of the Cross at 7:00 at Assumption Church each week.
- Brother Knight Leonard Schwerdt passed away. Council rosary will be 6:00 pm Thursday, February 12, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. Please attend if you can.
- We’ll have a breakfast on Sunday, March 15, probably with some Irish theme.
Chaplain's Report (Fr. Jon): Fr. Matthew Francis attended in place of Fr. Jon but had no formal report.
Treasurer's Report (Larry): Larry updated council on income and expenses.
Financial Secretary's Report (Merlin):
- Latest report from Supreme shows 2 transfers out and 1 transfer in. Our current Quotas: Membership 2/5 (not including new member approved tonight); Insurance –2/3, meaning we need 5.
- Discussion was had concerning the new Field Agent assigned for the Council.
- Merlin reports the Semi-annual Audit report has been completed and turned in.
- Supreme encourages Councils to hold an event for the Day of the unborn Child on March 25, and Founder’s Day on March 29.
Reading of Communications: Received letter requesting the Council sponsor an ad for the 2009 State Convention, to be held in Lawrence. Prices are $300 for full page; $175 for ½ page; $125 for ¼ page and $75 for 1/8 page. After short discussion, it was tabled until next month.
No reports were provided for the following: Directors’ Report, Membership, Church director, Council director, Community director, and Family director
Youth Director's Report (Kyle): Free Throw Contest was a huge success, with 16 participants; 6 competed at District competition on January 25; 2 advanced to Regional competition, to be held this Sunday, February 15. However, they might not be able to participate because of a conflict with the Topeka Parochial League tournament.

New Business:
- Ad for State Convention was discussed, but tabled for March.
- Conducted voting for Family of the Year and Knight of the Year, results under Good of the Order
Field Agent Report: None
District Deputy Report (Jose):
- Regional Free Throw Contest February 15 at Jeff west Jr. & Sr. High in Meriden
- Chapter Meeting, Thursday, February 19, St. Matthew’s, 7:30
- 1st Degree Tuesday, March 3 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Candidates report 6:30-6:45
- Major Degree Sunday, March 8 at St. Matthew’s (1st Degree at Noon); 2nd & 3rd begin at 1:00, candidates report 12:30 pm.
4th Degree:
- Color Corps callout-Thursday, February 26, Confirmation at Sacred Heart, report 6:30
- New Color Corps Drill Manual is out, we’ve already made some changes concerning dress code and procedure, Jose will try to have an item in the next 4th Degree Newsletter
- Contact Jose if you want to be put on, or taken off, the Color Corps callout list
Good of the Order:
- Pray for Merlin, who will have shoulder replacement surgery in St. Louis on March 17
- Pray for our adopted seminarian, Brian Jilka
- February Knight of the Month—Fr. Jon Hullinger; February Family of the Month—Larry Payne family.
