for Mater Dei Council No. 8059 Regular Meeting
Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Meeting was called to order by the Grand Knight at 7:04 p.m.
Role Call of Officers: Bill, Michael M., Fr. John (excused), Larry, Kyle, Norm, Mike H. (absent), Robert (Absent), Darwin (Absent), Merlin, and Clem (Excused)
Reading of minutes from last month's meeting (November)
Report of Admission Committee (Reading of Applications): None
Grand Knight’s Report: Executive officers should plan on attending the District Deputy's meeting on December 20th at Our Lady of Guadalupe (New Activities Center) at Noon.
Treasurer's Report (Larry): Larry updated council on income and expenses.
Financial Secretary's Report (Merlin):
- Father Steven moved to NY.
- Kevin Schmidt is back in town.
- Two Knights are eligible for Honorary Life Membership - Donald Broxterman and Don Frick.
- Membership Dues changed from $20 - $25 (see old/unfinished business) and, as such, honorary memberships increased from $10 to $12.50. Honorary dues are half the amount of regular dues.
Youth Director's Report:
- Free Throw Contest is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th, 6:30 p.m.
- Substance abuse poster contest is being planned
Reading of Communications:
- Been asked by Bob Dorst (sp?) to contribute funds for Pro Life Rally for Hayden students. Bill will follow up with Bob for more details concerning amount requested.
- Bill was approached by a member of St. Matthew's council to buy an ad ($100 - full page, $50 - half page, $25 - quarter page) for the upcoming Bowling program. It was moved and seconded to buy a quarter page ad which passed unanimously.
No reports were provided for the following items:
Chaplain's Report, Chancellor's Report, Program Director, Church Director, Family Director, Council Director, Community Director, Trustees Report, Services Program, Membership Program, Standing Committees, and Insurance, 4th Degree, Field Agent's Report, District Deputy's Report,
Unfinished/Old Business:
- It was moved and seconded to increase membership dues from $20 to $25. The result was unanimously in support of the motion.
- This Sunday, 12/14, from 8 to 11 a.m. we will be hosting Coffee, Juice, and Doughnuts in the Holy Name cafeteria
- Regina McCarthy will run the Casino Night scheduled for February 7th. She will be using service provided by Topeka West.
- Plans for Valentine's dinner initiated by Nick (not present at this meeting) was tabled for next meeting (January 14th).
- Server recognition - tabled for next meeting
- Pancake breakfast tentatively scheduled for January 25th.
New Business:
- Winners of Religious Education raffle were mentioned. The grand prize of $25,000 was awarded to an individual from Overland Park. No winners from Topeka. $300 was given to us to give to present to the School.
- It was moved and seconded to adopt a seminarian. The motion passed unanimously.
Announcements: Doug Martinek will no longer be our Field Agent as of Jan. 1.
