The Grand Knight opened the meeting at 7:00 pm, with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

In the absence of the Recorder, there were no minutes of the previous meeting.

 

New Applications: None

 

Bills and Communications: The Grand Knight reported he received a letter encouraging the Council to adopt a seminarian for the current fraternal year.

 

Grand Knight’s Report:  The Grand Knight announced that pancake breakfasts have been scheduled for Sunday, October 14 and Sunday and November 18, from 8:30-11:00 a.m. at the Mater Dei K-5 cafeteria (Holy Name site).

 

The parish picnic will be Sunday, September 16, from Noon-4:00 p.m. at the Big Gage Shelter House at Gage Park.  We need some volunteers to help set up, starting at 10:30, and to cook the food.

 

Michael McGuire will chair the annual Tootsie Roll Drive, which will be October 12-14.  Our locations this year:  Gage Bowl on Huntoon (per manager, we can be there all week); Dillons at Brookwood, Walgreen’s at 10th & Gage, state office buildings, and Gordman’s

 

Chaplain’s Report: None

 

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer gave his report on the current state of Council finances.

 

Winner of the monthly raffle, for Herman’s Meats, was Jim Keyes.

 

Financial Secretary’s Report:  Financial Secretary reported we have added 1 new member, toward our quota of 5.  We have no new insurance members, toward a quota of 3.  Currently we have 112 total members and 4 inactive members.

 

A transfer application for Lawrence Calvin had been approved, and is pending.

 

Melvin Jones passed away.

 

Financial Secretary discussed two pending applications: one for Robert Ortiz, Jr. and one for Robert Ortiz, III.

 

Financial Secretary reported he is waiting for a response from Supreme Council on our RSVP refund for last year.

 

Trustee’s Report: None

 

Service Program Reports

Youth:  The Youth Director reported that he was working to schedule the Soccer Skills Challenge for Sunday, October 21, at SportZone.

 

Family:  The Family Director reported that the August donut breakfast was well-attended.

 

Unfinished Business:  None discussed.

 

New Business:  A motion was made, seconded, and approved for the Council to cover the dues for Robert Ortiz III, until December 31, 2007.

 

A motion was made, seconded, and approved to adopt seminarian Andrew Stephens for the ’07-’08 fraternal year.

 

A motion was made and seconded to designate the October pancake feed for our seminarian and to authorize the Grand Knight to solicit donations from members for future pancake breakfasts.  After discussion the motion was approved.

 

A motion was made, seconded and approved to donate $50.00 to the Mater Dei Parish bazaar, for game prizes or other needed supplies.

 

Other topics discussed were as follows:

·         Altar server appreciation events, like a game night in December, or a trip to a Kansas City T-Bones game in the spring. The Grand Knight encouraged members to think of ideas. 

·         We will ask Fr. Bala Miryala, Parochial Vicar, to join the Council, or transfer membership if he is already a member elsewhere.

 

Report of the Fourth Degree:  Christmas Dinner will be Saturday, December 15 at Sacred Heart.  Social at 5:30, Dinner at 6:30.  Formal dress, social baldric.  $12.50 per person or $25.00 per couple.  More details to follow.

 

Color Corps Call-out Friday, September 14, report 3:30, for our Lady of Guadalupe 60th Anniversary Mass, at 4:00.

 

Color Corps practice, 6:45 pm, before next meeting, Tuesday, October 9.  Bring sword and service baldric.

 

Field Agent’s Report:  Field Agent Doug Martinek reported 130 members and 9 priests attended the 5th Annual Support Our Priests trip to the Kansas City Royals’ game.  Chaplain Fr. Jon Hullinger attended.  The Field Agent read a report from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson about our top-rated insurance programs; he distributed informational brochures about his role as an agent.  The Field Agent requested a volunteer to serve as Insurance Promoter; Nick Nichols volunteered

 

District Deputy’s Report:  Next Chapter meeting, Thursday, September 20, 7:30 at St. Joseph

 

Major Degrees (2nd & 3rd) will be held Sunday, October 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe.  OLG is trying to schedule a 1st Degree on Saturday, October 13.

 

Tootsie Rolls should be arriving this week or next.

 

The Order-wide Marian Prayer program features Our Lady of Charity for the 2007-08 year.  An Icon of Our Lady will be in our District between June 14, 2008 and July 5, 2008.

 

The District Deputy presented the Grand Knight with the 2006-’07 Columbian Award plaque, recognizing our service programs last year.

 

Good of the Order:  Knight of the Month for September is Medford Shively; Family of the Month is Kyle and Denise Mead Family.

Prayer requests for Dick Walsh (complications from cataract surgery) and for Nick Nichols’ mother (broken bones from a fall).

 

Grand Knight closed the meeting with a prayer.  Meeting adjourned 8:45 pm.
