Minutes (modified) - Mater Dei Council No. 8059 Regular Meeting

Prior to the opening of the Meeting, the Grand Knight introduced Amanda Zerr, chairperson for the Mater Dei Parish/School Fall Bazaar, who gave a short presentation on the initial stages of planning this Bazaar, and stated she welcomes input from the Council and other parish groups.

The Grand Knight opened the meeting at 7:00 pm, with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bills and Communications: None

Grand Knight’s Report:  The Grand Knight reported that he will obtain a frame for the 25 Year Certificate given to the Council at the Founder’s Day Mass held March 25.  The Mass and reception were a great success.

Medford Shively, a member of the Order for 61 years, and charter member of the Council, was presented with certificates and membership cards, recognizing his achievement of Honorary Membership and Honorary Life Membership in the Order.

Applications for the Fourth Degree Exemplification, to be held in Topeka June 16, must be fully completed and submitted to the Financial Secretary in time for him to submit them to the Fourth Degree Assembly by May 1.  Payment must accompany the application, $70.00 for the initiation, plus $15.00 for any banquet guest.

The Grand Knight and Financial Secretary will be the Council’s delegates to this year’s State Convention.  The Council will have to pay State Per Capita assessment and Pennies From Heaven payment at Convention.

The Grand Knight appointed the Trustees to serve as the Nomination Committee for next year’s slate of Council Officers.  The slate will be announced at the May meeting, and the election will be at the June meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer gave his report on the current state of Council finances.

Service Program Reports:

Youth:  The Youth Director reported there were no entries for the Essay contest this year.  He stated that the Mater Dei School may make the Essay a class requirement next year.  Substance Abuse posters have been returned to participants, except for those advanced to District and State competition.

Publicity:  Photos from the Founder’s Day Mass were submitted to the editor of the Leaven, and photos are being sent to Columbia Magazine.

Retention:  Efforts of the Retention Committee resulted in two delinquent members paying their dues.

Membership:  Council need 5 new members before June 30 to meet quota and qualify for Supreme Council recognition.  There will be a First Degree May 14 at Most Pure Heart.

Unfinished Business:  None discussed.

A motion was made and seconded, to arrange for a parking lot location where the Council could hold cookout fundraisers, beginning in June.  There was discussion of possible dates, on obtaining donations or reduced price items from Engroffs (cooker), Herman’s (meats), and other possible suppliers.  The motion was tabled until the May meeting.

District Deputy’s Report:  Major Degrees (2nd & 3rd) will be held this Sunday, April 15, in Leavenworth and Wichita.  Our recent transfer member, Brian Emerson, is set to attend at Leavenworth.

Good of the Order:  Knight of the Month for April is Bob Swain; Family of the Month is Merlin and Barb Wilson Family.  Bill Simons was presented with the framed certificate recognizing his family as the Family of the Year.

Kyle Mead asked for prayers for his grandfather, who passed away last week.
